Direct Line is a major insurance provider backed by the financial strength of the Royal Bank of Scotland with over 5 millions customers and they offer a wide range of insurance services and products. In 1985 they started their business selling car insurance only. Today they have six regional offices in the UK providing over a dozen different types of insurance and other services and they will not allow price comparison sites (which almost inevitably charge a fee for each sale they make; a fee that the client pays in the end) to advertise their products The following is a summary of just some of the covers and services that Direct Line provides:

1. Car Insurance – Direct Line offers a variety of different covers for car insurance.

  •  Comprehensive covers your car if it is stolen or damaged in an accident or a fire. It also will cover claims made for injury or to another person or damage to their property.

  • Third Party Fire and Theft provides coverage for you when someone else makes a claim against you for damages or injury. You are also covered if your car is stolen or damaged by fire.

  • Third Party Only covers only claims made by third parties. Your own vehicle is not covered.

2. Life Insurance offered by Direct Line is either Fixed Term Life or Mortgage Life Cover.

  • Fixed term life provides a lump sum of money to your beneficiaries if your death occurs during a period that is specified at the time the policy is purchased. The amount of cover remains the same throughout the term. You can add critical illness cover to this policy, which means that the sum will be paid if you are diagnosed with a critical illness during the term of the policy.

  •  Mortgage Life Cover is a policy that decreases over time. The level of cover lessens as the balance on your mortgage lessens. Critical illness cover can also be added to this policy.


3. Direct Line also offers many forms of travel insurance. These include single trip, or annual travel that covers any holidays you take for a year. You can even design your own travel coverage so this it is tailored to your specific needs while on holiday.

4. Direct Line knows how important our pets are us and, therefore, offers pet insurance. These policies do not cover working animals or animals that are considered dangerous. As long as your pet is in good health at the start of the policy and is between 8 weeks and 11 years old, you can get a policy. Depending on the level of coverage you select, these policies can cover things like vet’s fees, advertising and rewards for lost pets, pet boarding costs if you have to go to hospital, and legal liability in the event that your pet injures another person.

This is just a small portion of the types of insurance cover you can receive through Direct Line. They also offer breakdown cover and European breakdown cover for your car, home insurance, Home Response 24 (which is repair coverage for your home), landlord insurance, business insurance, shop, tradesman, office and surgery, home business, van, commercial property, employers' liability and public liability insurance for your business.
