Car insurance for 2 days

Ian Carrington, a self employed training course salesman, was the proud possessor of a six years old Rover 75 saloon car; despite it having clocked over 80,000 miles it had never broken down once and all he had had to pay for, apart from petrol, screenwash fluid and routine servicing, had been two new sets of tyres and several windscreen wiperblades. Sadly however the garage that maintained his car advised him that the cam belt was nearing the end of it's life so it would have to be replaced at the next service; he could always take the chance on it's survival but a broken belt would have resulted in the catastophic destruction of his engine and he wasn't ready to risk a written off car yet! Whilst a service usually took only a couple of hours or so a belt replacement was a much more major operation so the garage would need to keep the car for two days. He booked it in for the following Wednesday and Thursday, secure in the knowledge that he would be able to use his wife's car, which spent most of it's time parked on their drive, in the manwhile. It was only when his wife pointed out that perhaps he wasn't insured to drive it that he took a look at his own car policy; sure enough, as a careful driver he had thought that third party fire and theft cover was enough to pay for, and there was no provision for driving another car which didn't belong to him. For a while he considered taking the risk and not bothering with insurance; after all, he had never had a single accident in all his driving career but his wife wouldn't hear of it and she had heard that it was possible to buy short term car insurance over the Internet for only a few days so he went online, filed in a short form, paid what he considered to be very reasonable premium and was able to get cover arranged straight away for the two days he would need it for.

In the event he drove his wife's car quite uneventfully for two days with his usual care and consideration for other road users so there was always little danger of an accident. These do not always happen because of faults of our own though, and if one had come along whilst he was driving without insurance the consequences of it could quite easily have cost him his job, his home, his driving licence; perhaps even his marriage. Ian has recommended short term car insurance many times since then to his friends and family because of the peace of mind it gave him, as well as the ability to fulfil his legal obligations at a very reasonable cost.
